Ngaire is our qualified Professional Club Coach, while Ashleigh is our Junior Development Coach.

More About Us

Calder Tennis is a family owned and operated business based in the beautiful Nelson Tasman Region. Together Ngaire and Ashleigh have been coaching for the past 15 years, providing professional tennis development to a variety of ages and abilities. They currently offer training programmes at Waimea West, Hope, Golden Bay, Motueka and Wakefield Clubs. Ngaire and Ash have a great love for the game and enjoy sharing that love with their clients.

Our Team

Ngaire Calder

Ngaire has been coaching since 2002 in the Nelson/Tasman region. Born on the West Coast she spent most of her junior days playing on the West Coast and Canterbury.  She represented the West Coast as both a Junior and Senior, and in the 80’s gained selection for the Central Districts senior team as the number 1 woman. She shifted to Nelson in 1991 where she continued to coach voluntarily. Ngaire was runner-up at the National Regional Sparc volunteer coach of the year award in 2003, after winning the Nelson Regional title.  This award was in recognition of her outstanding voluntary contribution to coaching in tennis, soccer and mini ball. Ngaire sat her TCNZ Assistant Coach Award in 2004 and then sat her Pro Club Coach qualification in 2005. Ngaire coaches both juniors and adults at Hope Tennis Club, Wakefield, Waimea West and Golden Bay

Ashleigh Calder

Ashleigh has been involved in tennis for 15 years. For much of the time, Ash was training hard and competing in various tennis tournaments around the country and overseas. Ash played at National level for 7 years including holding a few junior National titles and has represented Nelson Bays and Canterbury in tennis since she was a young junior, She continues to represent Nelson Bays. In 2013, she took her tennis career to the next level and began coaching in the family business Calder Tennis Training. Coaching at various clubs around the Nelson Bays region. She completed her Junior Development coaching course with tennis Australia in late 2014 and is very excited to be involved with helping Calder Tennis and Nelson Bays Tennis improve their skills. She works alongside Ngaire at clubs Hope and Waimea West as an assistant junior coach. Ash become head coach of Motueka Tennis Club early 2014 and is starting to develop a group of juniors at the club. Ash believes the best thing about being a coach is watching players develop their skills and inspiring others to develop a real love for the sport.

Renny Spruijtenburg

Renny Spruijtenburg – Head Coach at Tahunanui Tennis Club & Whakapuaka Tennis Club. Renny is originally from the Netherlands but is now living with her New Zealand partner in Nelson. Renny has recently joined Calder Tennis starting the beginning of 2019 working along side Ngaire and Ash in their business.Renny played a lot of different sports growing up and starting playing tennis when she was around 14 years old, tennis has been her number one sport ever since. Renny has been a tennis coach and physical education teacher in the Netherlands and Europe for over 25 years. Renny is looking forward to coaching in the lovely Nelson Bays region and excited to join Calder Tennis. Renny loves to play tennis in her spare time. Renny has experience coaching and teaching all ages and abilities and loves giving people the tools and confidence to reach their goals and potential. Renny loves to see other enjoying the game. Calder Tennis have recently taken on two new clubs, Tahunanui Tennis Club and Wakapuaka Tennis Club, Renny will be coaching at these clubs as Head Coach. Ngaire & Ash welcome Renny to the team and look forward to working and growing together as a team.
